Cynthia Jean “Cindy” Demaree

Cynthia Jean “Cindy” Demaree, age 65 of Madison, Indiana, entered this life on October 21, 1960 in Madison, Indiana. She was the loving daughter of Lester Leroy and Mary Sue McBrayer Demaree. Raised in Madison, Cindy graduated from Madison Consolidated High School in 1979. She was inducted into the United States Army in November 1979 and rose to the rate of private. She was honorably discharged in August 1981. She remained in the Reserves until being honorably discharged in 1985. She was united in marriage to Thomas Scharlau and this union was blessed with one son, Kevin. She was raised in the North Madison Baptist Church in Madison and was a member of the Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion. She also helped with the Kindness of Jefferson County and ran an online gossip page for Madison. She had worked as a fork lift driver for Dayton Walther Corporation and Arvin Sango. She enjoyed traveling as a young adult, collecting things, crafting, painting, drawing, doing nails and being with her animals. Cindy died on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at her home in Madison, Indiana.

A LOVING FAMILY
Cindy will be missed by her son, Kevin T. Scharlau and his wife, Brooke of Madison, Indiana; her granddaughters, Alexis Scharlau, Teralyn Scharlau, and Lauryn Scharlau; her sisters, Susan Demaree Buchanan of Madison, Indiana, and Charlotte Demaree Conrad of Ft. Worth, Texas; her nephews, Anthony Buchanan and Jeremy Conrad (Maria); several cousins and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her father, Lester Leroy Demaree, died on July 21, 2000, her mother, Mary Sue McBrayer Demaree, died March 10, 2017, her brothers-in-law, Roger Allen Buchanan, died February 19, 2017 and Thomas Conrad.

PRIVATE FAMILY FUNERAL CEREMONY
Private family funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1415 North Gate Road in Madison, Indiana.

PRIVATE FAMILY VISITATION
Family may visit Tuesday, May 5, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive Madison, Indiana.
