Bulldogs break 2 records

One meet record was set and a school record was broken as part of Batesville’s successful night at the East Central Track and Field Invitational.
The invitational itself was won on each side by the host Trojans. East Central’s girls accumulated 175 points while the boys scored 164 points. The Lady Bulldogs were invitational runner-up with 138 points and the boys placed third at 95.5 points.
Cannon Clark, Cash Myers, James Rowland and Griffin Koester started the night by breaking the invitational record in the 3200 relay as that crew broke a 22-year-old mark and did so in a time of 8:21.42 to win the event. As the evening came to a close, Ava Wade, Maggie Jelinek, Bayleigh Demaree and Abby Miller set the Batesville school record in the 1600 relay. They now own that spot with a time of 4:05.17 and they ran second to East Central by less than a second.
Batesville had six other event wins on the night. Rowland won the boys 400 dash in 51.18 seconds which was a new personal-best time and Clark took the top spot in the boys 800 run in 2:05.11. Koester rounded out Bulldog boy winners and crossed first in the 1600 run at 4:42.90.
Ella King threw 41 feet and 6.75 inches to win the shot put and other girl winners included Wade and Maycee Holtkamp. Wade won the 1600 in 5:21.04 and Holtkamp took the high jump with an even five feet.
Second place finishers for the Bulldogs included the following: Boys – Koester, Max Walters, Clark and Rowland, 1600 relay. Girls – Demaree, 800; Isabel Meyer, pole vault; King, discus; Jelinek, 300 hurdles; Demaree, Jayla Bedel, Caitlin Raver and Wade, 3200 relay; Jelinek, Meyer, Holtkamp and Miller, 400 relay.
Third place finishers included: Boys – Walters, 400 dash; Levi Essick, 1600; Winston Garrett, pole vault. Girls – Jelinek, 100 hurdles; Meyer, discus.
Batesville hosts the Ripley County Track and Field Championships on Thursday night.
