Connersville overpowers Lady Bulldogs

Batesville softball hung tough with Connersville for five innings last Tuesday night but a six-run sixth inning allowed the Spartans some insurance and a 10-1 victory as part of the Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference schedule.

Batesville’s only run came in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Lady Bulldogs allowed four different Connersville players an RBI apiece.

Kourtni Carpenter was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Taylynn Selby was the winning pitcher after six innings, allowing an earned run on four hits with five strikeouts and a walk. Two of the four hits were by Batesville’s Caitlyn Fox. She scored on an RBI by Grace Copley. Lily Lang added the final two Lady Bulldog hits, one of which was a double.

Libby Stephens was the losing pitcher, giving up seven runs -six earned- on five hits in five innings with five walks and a strikeout.

Batesville was heading to Franklin County this week for Class 3A Sectional 29.
