Local quartet featured at Futures Game

High school baseball in the coverage area turned in a successful spring and that was wrapped up this past week by a local quartet being featured at the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association Showcase at Loeb Stadium in Lafayette.
Batesville’s Carson Meyer and Rylan Yeager alongside Jac-Cen-Del’s Brody Huff and Neil Sullivan competed in the one-day event on June 24. Top players in the state from the classes of 2027 and 2028 were named to rosters which participated in a doubleheader series.
Their selections were based on nominations sent in by coaches across the state. Each of the four were able to have success in the games and all four also took to the pitcher’s mound.
Meyer and Yeager helped lead Batesville to a 17-11 overall record and a Class 3A Sectional 29 Championship under head coach Tyler Burcham. With regards to Meyer, an incoming junior, he twirled a no-hitter in the opening round of sectional play and finished the spring with a 6-1 record on the bump with an earned run average of 1.19. In 41 innings, he struck out 57 and allowed only seven earned runs.
Yeager, an incoming senior, proved vital with his bat, hitting .333 with a pair of doubles, 10 runs scored and eight RBI. He took on a relief pitching role in addition to his work at the plate.
Jac-Cen-Del’s duo of Huff and Sullivan helped head coach David Bradshaw and company to a 15-8 record. Huff led the Eagles with a .368 batting average, driving in 23 runs on 25 hits, five of which were doubles. He scored 19 runs plus pieced together a 3-3 record on the mound with a 2.18 ERA. Huff’s numbers also included 59 strikeouts in 45 innings.
Sullivan’s 1.51 ERA on the hill included an 8-3 record and 102 strikeouts which ranked fifth overall in the state. Those numbers came inside 60.1 innings pitched. At the plate, Sullivan batted .343 with four doubles, three triples, two home runs, 27 runs and 14 RBI.
Both Huff and Sullivan will be seniors this upcoming fall.
