Lady Bulldogs open golf season
The Batesville girls golf team took top five finishes in two invitationals to start the new year. Sophomore Stella Maple reeled off back-to-back runner-up spots.
Batesville girls golf is in full swing and the 2026 fall season for the Lady Bulldogs opened this week with a pair of top five finishes on Monday and Tuesday.
The Lady Bulldogs, ranked 11th in the state, placed fourth on Monday in the Bloomington South Invitational at Stone Crest Golf Course and followed it with a runner-up spot on Tuesday at Liberty Country Club in the annual Union County Invitational.
No. 9 Center Grove won the Bloomington South Invitational with an 18-hole team score of 301 and No. 8 Castle sat second at 306. No. 10 Floyd Central finished third with a 324, Batesville had a 337 and New Albany rounded out the top five after scoring a 350. 15 teams took part in the event.
Batesville sophomore Stella Maple fired an even-par 71 and was runner-up on the individual leaderboard. Teammate Alexis Gallagaher finished her day with a 78, Grace Saner sat at 92 and Adelyne Koehne rounded out the team scoring with a 96. Makenna Moore played 18 holes and carded a 118 in a non-scoring round.
Maple came up big again on Tuesday and took another runner-up spot, this time shooting a two-over par 72 at the Union County Invitational. Gallagher came into the clubhouse at 85 and Saner was a stroke better for the week with a 91. Koehne finished out scoring with a 105 and the non-scoring round saw Moore and Caroline Wiedeman shoot a 118 and 119 respectively.
The Lady Bulldogs were at 353 for an 18-hole team score. Richmond won the invitational with a 335 and host Union County was third at 356. Eight teams participated on Tuesday.
Batesville plays in the New Albany Invitational on Saturday at Valley View Golf Club.
