Zola Mae Sporleder

Zola Mae Sporleder, 95, of Butlerville passed away at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 4, 2021 at her home. She was born in Moores Hill on August 9, 1925 the daughter of Eber L. and Cora Opal Meehan Stroup. She was married to Elmer Sporleder on December 1, 1946 and he preceded her in death on July 15, 2004. Survivors include one son Joseph (Sandra) Sporleder of Butlerville; three daughters Bonita (Johnny) Hopkins of Indianapolis, Cathy (Dan) Meisberger of Holton and Pam (Mason) Simmons of North Vernon; two sisters including Mae’s twin Mary Lewellen of Scipio and Helen Poling of North Vernon; 10 grandchildren Karen (Kelly) Gaskill, Jessica Hopkins and Ray Hopkins all of Indianapolis, Deanna (Ryan) Erny of Jasper, Adam (Amy) Meisberger of Reva, Virginia, Matthew (Andrea) Meisberger of Holton, Megan (Adam) Jines of Princeton, Jonathan (Dawn) Simmons of Seymour, Adriane Sporleder of Butlerville and Patrick Sporleder of Salem, MA; 16 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Dorothy Smith and Grace Tomlinson and her brother Eber Stroup, Jr.


Mrs. Sporleder was a 1943 graduate of Zenas High School. After graduation she went to work for Arvins in Columbus for a few years and then became a homemaker and helped Elmer on the farm. She loved spending time with her family, watching movies, reading, embroidering and working puzzle books. Mae was a faithful member of the Zenas Baptist Church.


Funeral services were held on Monday, February 8, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the Zenas Baptist Church with Pastor Mitch Harrell officiating. Burial was in the Vernon Cemetery. Visitation was held on Sunday from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 9:30 a.m. until time of services Monday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Hospice of South Central Indiana or the Zenas Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
