Janice Irene Gilpin

Janice Irene Gilpin, 83, of Versailles, Indiana, formerly of Kalamazoo, Michigan, passed away on Monday, February 15, 2021 at the Waters of Dillsboro. She was born at Mt. Sinai on February 25, 1937, the daughter of Raymond & Irene Peak. She was married to Marvin J. Gilpin, Sr. on September 10, 1954 and he preceded her in death on May 13, 2007.


Survivors include her living partner, Gene Hafft; two sons Marvin J. “Jerry” (Natalie) Gilpin of Rifle, Colorado, and Michael (Ann) Gilpin, Lakeland, Georgia, one daughter, Marsha (Jim) Bowker of Augusta, Michigan; one daughter-in-law, Michelle Gilpin of Three Rivers, MI; one sister, Joyce (Standley)Taylor of Versailles; nine grandchildren, Bryan Gilpin, Versailles, Staci Gilpin Trapp, Cincinnati, John Gilpin, Rockport, TX, Olivia Gilpin, Ft. Collins, CO, Jessie Gilpin McClain, MI, Allison Gilpin Crull MI, Emily Gilpin, MI, Marie Dennett MI, Scott Bowker, MI; nine great grandchildren, Kaidyn Gilpin, Eli Gilpin, Ellie Trapp, Ethan Trapp, Drew McClain, Brayden McClain, Will Dennett, Ava Dennett, Gavin Gilpin Dovey, and two more expected early this summer.


Janice went to Versailles High School, married Marvin and was a homemaker and mother. She loved when the grandchildren visited their home to swim, fish, ride in the golf cart and play. She loved cooking for the whole family and made the most delectable pies. She enjoyed doing puzzles and reading magazines. She was a member of the Versailles Baptist Church and had many friends she talked with by phone. Graveside services will be held on Sunday, June 6 at 2pm at the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles with Rev. Mike Cantrell officiating. Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.
