Connie Jean “Con” Scott Gabbard
Mrs. Connie Jean “Con” Scott Gabbard, age 78, of Cross Plains, Indiana entered this life on December 31, 1942 in Jefferson County, Indiana. She was the daughter of the late John R. and Irma M. Heiderman Scott. She was raised in Cross Plains and resided in the same home for her entire 78 years. She graduated from Cross Plains High School and was a member of the Cross Plains Baptist Church. She worked early in life for the U.S Shoe Corporation in Vevay and for the Halcomb family as housekeeper. She retired after 28 years of service to the South Ripley School Corporation where she was a custodian. She was united in marriage to William “Bill” Gabbard on November 2, 1974 in Tennessee. She was blessed to raise her children, Marsha, Ed, Mark, Lisa, Andy, and Billy. Connie loved mowing her lawn, raising beautiful flowers and gardens. She enjoyed coaching softball for five years and teaching her children to play softball. If Connie wasn’t home you would find her hanging out and socializing at the Cross Plains Store. Connie enjoyed being a mom and grandma and never met a stranger. Connie died on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at 8:45 p.m. at the Margaret Mary Hospital Community Hospital in Batesville, Indiana.
Connie will be missed by her loving daughters, Marsha Scott Foley and her husband, Greg of Madison, Indiana, Lisa Redwine and her husband, Fred of Madison, Indiana; her loving sons, Ed Robinson and his wife, Tracy of Cross Plains, Indiana, Mark Robinson and his wife, Bobbi Jo of Madison, Indiana, Andy Robinson and his wife, Lisa of Cross Plains, Indiana, Billy Gabbard and his wife, Lori of Cross Plains, Indiana; her grandchildren, Brett Scott, Kelly Dirksen, Amanda Marie Robinson, Mark Edward Robinson, Jr., Heather Carlock, Joshua Robinson, Jeffrey Robinson, Brandon Curtis Cope, Brandon Redwine, Ryan Tyler Redwine, Brett Redwine, Jessica Marie Conover US Navy, Michael Darren Conover, Katelynn Lee Gay, Nicholas Andrew Robinson, William Tyler Gabbard, Devon Glenn Gabbard, and Matthew Phillip Meisberger; her great grandchildren, Logan William Scott, Hannah Smith, Eli Smith, Logan Scott, Luke Carlock, Derek Carlock, Kolton Carlock, Mackenzie Jade Robinson, Mariah Lola Lynn Robinson, Tyson Nicholas Robinson, Wyatt Joseph Robinson, Kaitlyn Cope, Brock Cope, Madison Redwine, Maddox Redwine, Maisyn Redwine, Whitney Redwine, Emmy Redwine, Emma Marie Gay, and Aleeah Marie Robinson; her sister in law, Roberta Scott of Versailles, Indiana; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her father, John R. Scott, her mother, Irma M. Heiderman Scott, died April 28, 1989, her brother, Kenneth Wayne Scott, and her half brother, Larry West.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, July 11, 2021, at 4:00 p.m., by Pastor Scott Elston at the South Ripley Junior High School Gymnasium, 1589 South Benham Road in Versailles, Indiana. Interment followed in the Grandview Memorial Gardens,9306 North US 421 near Madison, Indiana.
Friends visited on Sunday from 12:00 Noon – 4:00 p.m. at the South Ripley Junior High School Gymnasium, 1589 South Benham Road in Versailles, Indiana.
