Lady Bulldogs are State Bound

Batesville girls golf is all smiles after securing a berth in the IHSAA Girls Golf State Finals. The Lady Bulldogs finished third in Saturday’s regional tournament.

A birdie by Emma Weilier and a chip-in by Josie Meyer for an eagle gave Batesville a top three finish and a spot in the IHSAA Girls Golf State Finals as part of the state regional tournament last Saturday at the Edgewood Golf Club in Anderson.

Batesville was one of three teams from the regional to score high enough for a spot in the state finals next weekend. The Lady Bulldogs carded a 331 on the afternoon after a brief weather delay while Noblesville won the regional with a 313 and Hamilton Southeastern finished runner-up at 316. Aside from those three teams, individuals from Mt. Vernon (Fortville), Lapel, Richmond and Lawrence Central advance to the state championship meet.

Emma Weilier gave Batesville an individual top five finisher as she was fourth among all who competed with an 18-hole five-over par 75. Yanah Rolston of Hamilton Southeastern was the individual winner with a one-under par 69.

Josie Meyer’s eagle gave the Lady Bulldogs a sixth place overall finisher at 80 while teammate Addyson Weiler finished the day with an 81. Tori Harpring concluded the scoring round with a 95 and Madelyn Pohlman carded a 111 in the non-scoring round.

Three coverage area student-athletes competed as individuals in the regional but were unable to continue their seasons into the state meet. Oldenburg Academy’s Emerald Simmonds shot a 103 while Jac-Cen-Del’s Tracy McKittrick shot a 107. Milan’s Kayla Walke finished her day with a 114.

Batesville takes its team to the state finals on Friday and Saturday of this week at the Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel. Both days of state action tee off at 8:30 a.m. as part of 36-hole event.
