Eleanora Jean “Norie” Springer

Eleanora Jean “Norie” Springer, 96, of Indianapolis, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2022, at Morristown Manor in Morristown, Indiana. She was born on August 1, 1925, in Ripley County near Milan Indiana, the daughter of Joseph and Sophia (Carter) Peebles.


She graduated in 1943 from Holton High School. On August 12, 1961, she married the love of her life William “Bill” Edward Springer, and he preceded her in death on June 29, 2018. She worked in accounting and retired from Naval Avionics with over 25 years of service.


Norie is survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Springer of McCordsville; numerous nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; great-great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-great-nieces and nephews. In addition to Bill, Norie was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers: Virgil Peebles and Jewell Peebles; sisters: Emmaline Peebles, Evelyn Nuxoll, Geraldine Bruce, Gladys Foster, Pauline Britt, and Bonnie June Patrick; and her brother-in-law, Gene Paul Springer.


Norie loved nature especially bird watching. She enjoyed spending time in her garden tending to her tomatoes and flowers. Norie and Bill loved history and traveling. Whether by car, cruise ship, or tour bus, they explored all 50 states, much of the Caribbean, and the Panama Canal. Norie found joy in life. She enjoyed music, dancing with her beloved Bill, and reading. She eagerly opened her home to neighbors and family and rarely anyone came that didn’t leave without feeling loved and with a sweet treat.


Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 9, 2022, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Frazier Chapel, 124 E. North St., in Morristown. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Rev. David Galbraith officiating. Interment will be at Asbury Cemetery in Morristown. Freeman Family Funeral Homes, 819 S.
