Indians win Batesville Invite

Milan boys cross country continued its hot streak and blazed through the competition on Tuesday night en route to the Batesville Invitational title among the small school division.
Batesville hosted several teams that were split into two invitational divisions. Milan, South Ripley, Jac-Cen-Del and Oldenburg Academy all competed as part of the small school division while the Bulldogs were the lone coverage area team in the large school division.
Milan was three points away from a perfect score in the boys meet and won the invitational with 18 points, easily besting runner-up South Ripley with 56 points. Oldenburg was third with 71 points while Jac-Cen-Del and North Decatur rounded out the standings with 95 points and 104 points respectively. The Indiana School for the Deaf competed but did not field a complete team.
It was an easy win for Milan junior Ben Riehle who won the individual championship in a time of 16:34 while teammate, brother and runner-up Gabe Riehle was at 17:03.80. Another Indian runner in Ayden Potts was third overall in 17:15.90, Oldenburg’s Carter Walsman was fourth at 17:33.70 and Milan’s Lucas Cooney was fifth in 18:05.40. The remainder of the top 10 among individuals was from the coverage area.
Oldenburg’s Adam Dennis was sixth overall in a time of 18:10.40 and Milan’s Nathan Voss was seventh at 18:25.40. South Ripley took the next three spots as Luke Bradley was eighth in 18:48.80, Bradley Leach was ninth in 18:50.90 and Evan Eaglin was 10th at 18:59.50.
Milan was rounded out by Ethan Dehamer who was 12th at 19:13.50 and South Ripley’s final three runners were Hayden Hooten in 13th place at 19:28.60, Joseph Davis in 16th at 19:48.10 and Jordan Davis in 28th at 23:24.30. Oldenburg had Santiago Schutte in 11th place in 19:06.40, Noah Schenk in 20th at 20:27.40 and Albert Hudepohl in a time of 24:22.80.
Jac-Cen-Del saw Marshall Johnson place 15th and lead his team with a time of 19:40.30 and the duo of Cameron Reatherford and Jacob Ricke finished 17th and 18th in times of 19:49.70 and 20:05.50 respectively. Dylan Ricke was 21st at 20:31.20, Gabriel Maloney sat 24th at 21:23.50 and Payton Amberger was 25th at 22:08.
South Ripley and Jac-Cen-Del finished second and third with 39 points and 51 points respectively in the girls small school race. Milan and Oldenburg both ran but did not field complete teams while North Decatur won the race with 30 points.
No team win for the Lady Raiders but senior Shelby Bastin delivered an individual championship and won the small school race in a time of 21:00.20 while Milan’s Elly Potts was runner-up in 22:07.20. South Ripley’s Virginia Minch was fourth overall in 24:04.10, Oldenburg’s Maddie Ryan was sixth at 24:47.80 and Jac-Cen-Del freshman Allene Peters was eighth with a finishing time of 25:29.70. South Ripley sophomore Elizabeth McKittrick placed ninth at 26:25 and Jac-Cen-Del’s Allison Peetz rounded out the top 10 at 26:40.30.
South Ripley’s final two runners were Mady Tingle and Kaitlyn Tingle in times of 32:54.60 and 35:53.60 respectively and Oldenburg’s Amelia Crawford was 13th overall at 28:44.70. Milan saw Sarah Lillis cross the finish line in 12th at 28:43.20, Cheyenee Burns in 15th at 30:10.60 and Emma Jutsi in 22nd at 36:43.80.
Jac-Cen-Del’s Kinsey Rohls sat in 16th place with a time of 30:59.40 and Aliyah Karshner was right behind in 17th at 32:24.60. The final three Lady Eagle runners were Savannah Steele in 33:49.90, Seena Peetz in 38:26.30 and Estela Lopez in 38:47.60.
Batesville scored 29 points in the girls large school division race and was second to East Central by just three points. Rushville was third with 85 points. On the boys side, the Bulldogs scored 47 points for a second place finish and the Trojans won with 39 points. Rushville’s 54 points and Lawrenceburg’s 85 points rounded out the standings.
Sophomore Jacob Chapman won the Batesville Invitational and represented the Bulldogs in doing so with a time of 16:43.50 and teammate Isaac Trossman was fifth overall in 17:36.30. Cannon Clark was a top 10 finisher in a time of 18:03. Paxton Harris and Deev Ranka finished 15th and 16th in times of 18:27.90 and 18:34.40 respectively. Eli Loichinger was 17th at 18:39.20 and Cash Myers was 20th in 19:07.80.
Batesville had five runners finish in the top 10 of the girls race, led by Ava Hanson in third at 19:45.70, Sophie Myers in fourth at 19:54.50 and Lexiyne Harris in fifth at 19:59.50. Megan Allgeier was ninth overall at 20:47.60 and freshman Charlotte Trossman was 10th at 20:47.70. The Lady Bulldogs had two more runners as Samantha Adams was 14th in 22:19.10 and Isabel Raab was 15th in 22:22.50.
The Bulldogs are at the Greensburg Invitational today while South Ripley, Milan and Jac-Cen-Del all run in the Ohio River Valley Conference Championship on Saturday.
