Failure to register sends sex offender to prison

A Ripley County sex offender was sentenced to prison last week to a near-maximum sentence.


Smith era ends at JCD

Arguably the greatest coach to patrol the sidelines in Ripley County says “change is inevitable” and in doing so has officially wrapped up a hall of fame career at a place where he has developed one of Indiana’s great sports cultures as Scott Smith has stepped down as the head girls basketball coach at Jac-Cen-Del.


Board hears about tornado damage

At the March meeting of the Jac-Cen-Del Board of School Trustees, Superintendent Ryan Middleton gave an update on damage the corporation sustained from a tornado that tore through the area earlier in the month. He said the Northeast end of the elementary roof was damaged and nine bus windows had been broken from flying debris. The softball scoreboard broke off form the high winds and the poles fell on the fence below. The baseball dugout along with the batting cage and announcer’s booth were all damaged in the storm on March 7.
