Batesville’s Payton Yorn tries to quickly corral a throw down to second base in Monday softball action against East Central.
East Central put together quite the display of offense and the bats sizzled en route to a 16-3 victory at Batesville on Monday night in an Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference game.
The Lady Trojans (6-3) dealt Batesville a second-straight conference loss to start the EIAC campaign. East Central scored 11 runs in the first three innings before tacking on its final five in the top of the fifth to force the 10-run mercy rule.
Taylor Sommer hit a home run and had two RBI for East Central and Avery Calvert drove in three runs on a triple. Chloe Feldmann added four hits. Starting pitcher Paige Hotze got the win after giving up just one hit and striking out seven in three innings of work.
Batesville plated all three of its runs in the bottom of the fourth. Jada Zins had a hit and scored while Cora Roth and Lily Lang each crossed home plate. Laken Obermeyer had the other Lady Bulldog hit. The pitching loss went to Grace Copley who went four and one-thirds innings, allowing 15 runs -five earned- on 10 hits with four walks and one strikeout.
The Lady Bulldogs (4-3, 0-2 EIAC) have a rematch with the Lady Trojans tonight in St. Leon.
