Aldean Kathryn Hooten

Aldean Kathryn Hooten, age 84, of Holton, Indiana, passed away on February 20, 2021 at Margaret Mary Health in Batesville, Indiana. She was born on December 1, 1936 in Ripley County, Indiana to the late Alfred H. and Myrtle Miller Thomas. As a child, Aldean lived in the Cross Plains area with her parents, brother and sister. From a child on, she attended St. Paul Lutheran Church of Dewberry and in the 8th grade, was confirmed. She would remain a life-time member serving in the ladies aid. Her love of the church and its members was shown through the years with the many pies and other dishes of food that she prepared. The first time she laid eyes on her future husband, Carroll Hooten in 1957, was at a local grocery store in Cross Plains where Aldean was working. There was some sort of a spark that occurred between them and remained because later they would meet in 1958 and ended up getting married on June 25, 1960 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dewberry (Cross Plains) Indiana. They were blessed with three wonderful children. On January 12, 2017, she lost her beloved husband, Carroll.

You may remember seeing Aldean at the Jay C store in Osgood, where she worked 29 years as a faithful and loyal employee. After her retirement in February of 1999, for approximately 12 years, she and her husband were able to spend some winter months in Florida. Cooking for her family and feeding the birds are just a small part of the memories of having a wonderful mother. Her family was her world and she will be deeply missed.

Survivors include son, Michael (Jean) Hooten of Osgood; daughters Wanda (Rick) Bales of Cross Plains, IN and Brenda Hooten of Friendship, IN; one sister, Virginia Iceberg of Versailles, IN; seven grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll Hooten and one brother, Ralph Thomas.
