Barbara J. Marsee

Barbara J. Marsee of Versailles passed away at 10:50 p.m. Thursday, September 29, 2022, at the Waters of Dillsboro. She was born in Marion, Kentucky on January 29, 1936, the daughter of Ray and Stella Riley. She was married to Eugene Marsee on March 14, 1964, and he survives.

Other survivors include three sons Charles (Cookie) Marsee of Rexville, Tim (Sarah) Marsee of Vincennes, and Mark (Tanya) marsee of Milan; one daughter Connie (Stanley) Shadday of Osgood; eight grandchildren: one brother Jerry (Marjorie) Riley of Guilford; two sisters Carol Workman of Bright and Sandy (Bobby) Jordan of Sunman; brother-in-law Paul (Katrina) Spurlock. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Gerald, Bobby, and Kenneth Ray Riley, her sister Phyllis Swango, brothers-in-law Douglas Swango, and Dale Workman, her sister-in-law Linda Riley, and her great-grandson Jeremiah Harris.

Mrs. Marsee worked as a Kelly Girl and was a bookkeeper for Kenner Toys. In her younger years she also worked as a switchboard operator. Eugene and Barbara traveled coast to coast driving by car to see 48 states. They traveled from Mexico to Oregon and Washington. They particularly liked the west coat, going to California three times. They had been to the Sequoia National Park, Mt. St. Helen where they saw the damage after it erupted in 1980. They also visited Yellowstone and enjoyed the beauty of the Painted Desert. They traveled to Niagara Falls, Martha’s Vineyard, and Cape Cod. In Arkansas, they visited the Shepherd of the Hills and traveled to a private island in Florida.

Barbara was a member of the Hilltop Baptist Church in Versailles.

Funeral services were held on Monday, October 3 at 1 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. Burial was in the Cliff Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Milan Fire Department or the Delaware Fire Department in care of the funeral home.
