Charles Francis Davies, 92, of Dillsboro, passed away on Friday, April 1, 2022 at his home, on Rebecca’s farm where he and Eileen lived their last few years, surrounded by his loving family. Francis, as everyone knew him, was born on Thursday, April 25, 1929, on the family farm in Dillsboro; son of Orlando and Edlinie (Workman) Davies. He married Eileen Kelly on January 6, 1951 at the Dillsboro United Methodist Church, and they were able to celebrate 70 wonderful years together before her passing on January 21, 2021.


He was a member of the Hope Baptist Church. He was in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, working as a ward master at Walter Reed Hospital. He worked several years in the construction industry including but not limited to working on construction of the I & M power plant for five years, several years with McKittrick construction, contractor with Green & Davies Construction, and then as an independent contractor for several more years. Francis and Eileen wintered in Florida for 15 winters and attended Carpenter’s Home Church in Lakeland, Florida. After retirement, he volunteered at Ross Manor and Dillsboro Manor Nursing Homes in Dillsboro visiting with the patients nearly every day. He enjoyed golfing and spending time with the family. Francis had an amazing sense of humor and loved meeting people.


Francis is survived by his son David Davies (Pam) of Dillsboro; daughters Teresa Davies Aldrich (Ross) of Terrace Park, Ohio and Rebecca Sue Davies (Dana Bascom) of Dillsboro; brother Paul Davies of Dillsboro; grandchildren Curtis Aldrich, Dustin Aldrich, David-Michael Davies, Nastasha Gilmour, Ty Fuchs, and Garrett Bascom; and ten great-grandchildren. Francis was preceded in death by his parents, Orlando and Edlinie Davies, wife Eileen Davies, and his siblings.


Family and friends may gather in remembering Francis from 5-7 PM Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at the Filter-DeVries-Moore Funeral Home in Dillsboro. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be given in honor of Francis to Loving Hearts Hospice.
