Eleanor (Cornell) Dixon Zimmermann
Eleanor (nee’ Cornell) Dixon Zimmermann, 89, of Batesville passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at St. Andrews Health Campus in Batesville. Eleanor was born on Thursday, November 24, 1932 in Cincinnati, Ohio; daughter of Harry and Myrtle (Wilder) Cornell. Eleanor married William Dixon on March 27, 1948 and he preceded her in death on June 25, 1984. She later married Leroy Zimmermann on November 9, 1996 and he preceded her in death on October 3, 2011. Eleanor worked at the Osgood Shoe Factory and retired from James Rivers. She was a Milan American Legion Auxiliary member and enjoyed bingo, decorating cakes, and drawing. Eleanor loved baking pies and was well known by many, who either ate or received one of her mouthwatering pies.
Eleanor will be missed by her sons William Dixon (Rhonda) of Greensburg, Michael Dixon (Carol) of Batesville, David Dixon (Tricia) of Milan, and Chuck Dixon (Peggy) of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky; daughters Terri Lowder (Ken) of North Carolina and Jan Thomas (Roy) of Osgood; sisters-in-law Janet Zimmermann of Cincinnati, and Charmaine Hauck of Enochsburg; close friend Debbie Schaefer of Holton; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and soon to be 18; numerous nieces and nephews.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, her stepmother Opal Cornell, two husbands, brothers Hubert Cornell, Albert Cornell, and Harry Cornell, Jr., sisters Hulda Page, Dorothy Dorton, and Margaret Daulton, grandchild Corey Dixon, and close friend Mary Gargauna.
Family and friends gathered in remembering Eleanor from 9:00 – 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at the Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan. A service immediately followed at 11:00am with Pastor Tom Holt officiating. Burial was held at St. Paul Methodist Cemetery. Memorials may be given in honor of Eleanor to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
