Freeda F. Hensley, 99, of Versailles passed away at 12:50 a.m., Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at the Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville. She was born near Osgood on November 7, 1922, the daughter of Earl and Daisy Jines Cain. She was married to Jay Hensley on September 3, 1940, and he preceded her in death on July 1, 2011.


Survivors include two sons Carl (Harriet) Hensley of Greensburg and Larry (Vicky) Hensley of Versailles; one daughter Kay (Jim) Steele of Ossian; 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren; one brother Walter Cain of Marion. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her son Gayle and her sisters Nita Cain, Earlene Lamb and Virginia Beller.


Mrs. Hensley was the former co-owner and operator of the Twilight Haven Nursing Home in Versailles. After completing cosmetology courses at the Southeastern Career Center she owned and operated Freeda’s Beauty Shop as well as assisting her husband with his shoe repair business. She enjoyed quilting, was an avid reader, a published poet and an accomplished artist. At age 65 Freeda took lessons and learned how to play the organ. Freeda was a member of the Shelby Christian Church.


Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Bro. David Jolly officiating. Burial was in the Cliff Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Cliff Hill Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
