Gene Russell Flint, Sr.

Gene Russell Flint, Sr.

The community of Osgood lost a familiar smile and a friend with the sudden passing of Gene Russell Flint, Sr. age 54, on Saturday, April 11, 2020. Gene was born on October 27, 1965, in Madison, the son of Gene Arthur and Alene (Cave) Flint. His childhood would see him move from Texas to Tennessee before settling in Osgood.

Gene finished his education at Jac-Cen-Del and was a graduate of the Class of 1983. After completing school Gene joined the United States Army and began his basic training. He had entered the Army Airborne Division but was forced to return home after the passing of his father.

In August of 1984, Gene had begun working in the family business and consequently one fateful day was needing to get lunch. He had no idea that stopping at Ernie’s (Larry’s) Pizza in Versailles and ordering would forever change his world by meeting his future bride, Miss Paula Derringer. Gene and Paula were married on September 11, 1989 in a very short ceremony held in Mama’s Pizza in downtown Osgood. They were blessed with two sons, Gene Russell and Ryan Arthur. Gene and Paula have been a team in every aspect of the way. Gene was self-employed and operated numerous adventures over the years from siding to trucking. A hard worker, he wasn’t scared to venture into about anything. His first and foremost important job was simply being Dad, which has evolved into being the best grandpa he could be.

Gene and Paula in recent years had been blessed to take long vacations and travel to many states. He has fished numerous lakes, oceans, and various points in between, from Maine to California. The family said every vacation ever taken revolved around being able to fish. He wasn’t afraid to push it to the limit on getting out on the water.

Gene was a proud member of Church on the Rock in Batesville.

Gene is survived by wife, Paula; sons, Gene Russell and Ryan Arthur (Sabrina Yocum); loving mother, Alene Flint; granddaughters, Emma Grace, Bailey Sue, and Whitley Jean; and grandson, Wyatt Russell. He was preceded in death by father, Gene Arthur; brother, Michael; and sister, Michelle. Due to the Covid 19 restraints in place a memorial service will be planned at a future time. Memorials may be given to Church on the Rock in care of Neal’s Funeral Home. Online memorials can also be left at Nealsfuneralhome.net
