Hester M. Young

Hester M. Young, 80, of Versailles passed away at 7:50pm, Thursday, February 25, 2021 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. She was born in Little Blue, Missouri on April 26, 1940, the daughter of Roy and Helen Thompson Chapman.


Hester graduated from William Chrisman High School. On June 24, 1973, she married her best friend, Howard Young, who preceded her in death on June 8, 2020. Hester was a tax accountant, and logged many hours helping her clients navigate the challenging world of tax returns. In her spare time, she was an active member in the NMLRA, along side her husband. She loved helping at the black powder shoots in Friendship every year. She also enjoyed spending time with “The Ladies”, playing cards and driving them out for lunches. Survivors include four sisters: Hazel Hupman of Sugar Creek, MO, Donna Jackson of Independence, MO, Diane Ford of Seattle, WA, and Helen Mangum of Independence, MO. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Roy and John Chapman, and her sister Hilda Steffens. She will be dearly missed by all those who loved her, including her many friends, neighbors, and family members not listed here, along with her loving Mr. Boots.


Hester’s wishes were to be cremated and a celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, April 14 at 2pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Burial will be in the Akers Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will also be on Wednesday beginning at 1pm. Memorials may be given to the Friendship Fire Department or the NMLRA Youth Program in care of the funeral home.
