James Oval Buck, Jr.

James Oval Buck, Jr., 88, of Dillsboro passed away Friday, July 17, 2020 at his residence. James was born Friday, December 25, 1931 in Casey County, Kentucky, the son of the late James and Lola (Allen) Buck Sr. He married Kay Wright on January 17, 1959 and she survives.


James served his country in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was of the Protestant faith. He worked for Ford Brothers as a diesel mechanic for seventeen years. His business was his hobby; he worked on apartments; sealed driveways; and did blacktopping.


James is survived by his wife Kay of Dillsboro; children Jeff (Donna) Buck of Lawrenceburg, Rick Buck of Aurora, Tirana (Jeff) Craven of Alaska, and Aaron Buck of Dillsboro; grandchildren Beau, Sheila, Eric, Noah, Eli, Jessica, Trisha, and Triffawna; eight great-grandchildren; brother Lowell (Mary) Buck of Florida; and sister Charlotte Oatman of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents James, Sr. and Lola; siblings Lucille Burton, Irene Swanson, Helen Padilla, Arthur Buck, Euzella Duff, and Garnett Buck.


A service celebrating his life will be held 11 a.m Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at Filter-DeVries-Moore Funeral Home in Dillsboro with Pastor Carter Corbrey and Brent Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Sinai Cemetery with full military rites provided by Northcutt-Laaker American Legion Post # 292. Family and friends may gather to share and remember him 9 – 11 a..m. Tuesday also at the funeral home. Memorials may be given in honor of James to the American Cancer Fund or Korean Veterans Memorial.
