Janet Fern (Smith) Crum

Janet Fern (Smith) Crum

Janet Fern (Smith) Crum, age 83, of Sunman passed away Friday, December 13, 2019 at St Andrews in Batesville. Janet was born on February 17, 1936, as somewhat of a surprise, 15 minutes after her twin sister Katherine. She was born in the Harrison, Ohio area and grew up on the family farm. Janet, along with her four sisters, helped in all aspects of the farm production.

She attended Harrison High School, graduating in 1954. After high school, Janet worked at Baldwin and C G & E (now Duke Energy) for several years. Janet enjoyed playing softball and bowling. While attending a local dance, she would meet her future husband Charles “Bill” Crum. They were united in marriage on April 27, 1974 at St. John United Church of Christ in Harrison, Ohio.

The marriage would see her return to her farm roots. The two of them were a vital part in the “Crum Turkey Farm”, located north of Delaware, for years. Janet helped to keep track of everyone and pitch in wherever needed.
Her church families at both Adam’s Lutheran Church in Batesville and St. John United Church of Christ in Harrison, Ohio were important to her. She served on numerous committees and taught Sunday School over the years. She was involved in the Ladies Aide program.

Janet was preceded in death by husband Bill Crum, parents Ed and Goldie (Otto) Smith, and sister Betty Andres. She is survived by sisters Dorothy Hinssen, Anna Cole, and Katherine Schaefer, along with numerous niece and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday December 17, 2019 from 10 am. 12 pm., with funeral services being held at 12 pm. All services will be held at Adam’s Lutheran Church. Memorials maybe given to either church in care of Neal’s Funeral Home.
