Jason Gerrit DeVries, 42, of Dillsboro passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at Highpoint Health in Lawrenceburg. Jason was born Thursday, September 29, 1977 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the son of Kenneth and Virginia (Van Sluyters) DeVries. Jason was a member of Dillsboro United Methodist Church in Dillsboro. He worked for New Horizon’s in Batesville. He was the “Uncle” and a “car guy”; he helped his dad and mom at the DeVries Funeral Home and loved Janet’s Diner, especially the cookies. His favorite hobby was eating; he enjoyed watching DVD’s, especially Andy Griffith and Matlock.

Jason is survived by his mother Virginia “Ginny” (Marion “Van”) Van Cleave of Dillsboro; brother Kenneth (Wendy) DeVries Jr. of Pleasant Lake, Michigan; sister Deborah (Dusty) Wellman of Houghton, Iowa; nieces Rachel and Madeline; nephews Remington and Trey; and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his father Kenneth DeVries.

A service celebrating his life will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, February 22 at Dillsboro United Methodist Church with Pastor Deb Beason officiating. Family and friends may gather to share and remember him 4 – 7 p.m. Friday, February 21 at Filter-DeVries-Moore Funeral Home in Dillsboro. Burial will be Monday, February 24 at Sharon Presbyterian Cemetery, Farmington, Iowa. Memorials may be given in honor of Jason to Dillsboro United Methodist Church or Summit Group Home (group home checks made out to Virginia Van Cleave).
