Marvin D. Stratton

Marvin D. Stratton, 85, of Shreveport. Louisiana, formerly of Petersburg, Indiana passed away on September 25, 2020 after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Versailles on September 4, 1935 the son of Rolla and Hazel Robertson Stratton.


Marvin was a 1953 graduate of Versailles High School and also graduated from Purdue University and the Indiana University School of Law. He practiced law in Petersburg for many years and served as Pike County Circuit Judge from 1982 to 2000. He was named a Sagamore of the Wabash by Governor Frank O’Bannon in 2000. Marvin was an active member of several civic, charitable, and professional organizations including the First United Methodist Church in Petersburg.


He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother William Stratton, and his son Charles. Survivors include his wife of 58 years Barbara; son Michael (Kelly) Stratton of Shreveport; grandchildren Tucker, Joseph, and Ellison; one brother Frank Stratton of Ft. Wayne; one sister Rita Lang of Indianapolis. He will be fondly remembered as a dedicated husband, father, and grandpa and always compassionate and fair in his decisions. The family plans to hold a memorial service in Petersburg when current travel and gathering restrictions allow.
