Nancy J. Swingle, 84, of Versailles passed away at 7:20am, Sunday, June 12, 2022 at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. She was born in North Vernon on August 1, 1937 the daughter of James and Jenny Mae Thicksten Carson. She was married to Glen Swingle on May 28, 1983 and he preceded her in death on January 20, 2011.


Survivors include two sons Gale (Sandy) Howard of Versailles and Johnny Howard of Holton; daughter-in-law Victoria Howard of West Alexandria, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; one sister Faye Craig of Pendleton. She was preceded in death by her son Branch Howard, III, her parents, her brother Jim Carson, and her sisters Alice Heath and Daisy Wilson.


Mrs. Swingle was a 1955 graduate of San Jacinto High School. Nancy’s working career spanned many years where she was employed with US Shoe in Osgood, Delta Faucet in Greensburg, and Ohio Rod and Pollard’s Bowl in Versailles. She received her cosmetology degree from the Southeastern Career Center and was also a full time beauty operator in the Versailles area. Nancy and Glen were avid bowlers and she also enjoyed feeding her “backyard birds” and gardening. In her younger years Nancy had some good beagles and was quite the rabbit hunter. Nancy was a member of the Shelby Christian Church.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 17 at 12pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Randy Thieman officiating. Burial will be in the St. Paul Cemetery at Olean. Visitation will also be on Friday beginning at 10am. Memorials may be given to the Shelby Christian Church building fund in care of the funeral home.
