Owen T. Heaton

Owen T. Heaton, Jr., 78, of Batesville, formerly of Cross Plains passed away at 9:50 p.m., Friday, November 13, 2020 at his home. He was born near Bedford in LaGrange County, Kentucky on August 28, 1942 the son of Owen Sr. and Mildred Thompson Heaton. He was married to Aletha Holzer on May 30, 1980 and she survives. Other survivors include one daughter Jennifer Lyons of Delaware; one step-son Ernie (Lisa) Davis of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; two step-daughters Thais (Barron) Cook of Batesville and Jodi (Charles) Eckstein of St. Nicholas; 9 grandchildren; two sisters Francis (Chuck) Sigmon of Vevay and Betsy Hatton of New Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Marybelle.


Mr. Heaton was a 1960 graduate of Trimble County High School. Jr., as he was known in the community, worked for 23 years as superintendent for the Ripley County Highway Department. He and Aletha also operated a dairy farm at their home near Cross Plains and Jr. drove a bus for the South Ripley schools for many years. He attended St. Louis Catholic Church in Batesville.


Jr.’s wishes were to be cremated and services will be held at the convience of the family with burial in the Methodist Cemetery at Cross Plains. Memorials may be given to the cemetery in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.
