Vesta Ryan, 80, of Dillsboro passed away Sunday, July 12, 2020 at The Waters of Dillsboro. Vesta was born Thursday, November 16, 1939 in Aurora, Indiana, the daughter of the late Charles and Eunice (Stamper) Hughes. She married Paul Ryan and he preceded her in death October 4, 1990.


Vesta was a lifelong member of the Bear Creek Baptist Church. She graduated from Dillsboro High School in 1957 and lived in Farmers Retreat until 1958. She owned and operated Vesta’s bookkeeping service, and retired from Kennett Truck Stop December 23, 1999 as a bookkeeper. She enjoyed making quilts for nursing home residents since 1999. She also loved to sing and loved gospel and bluegrass music.


Vesta is survived by sons Bill (Kim) Vinup of Dillsboro, Bob (Karen) Vinup of Hamilton, Ohio, and Tom Vinup of Shelbyville, Kentucky; daughter Paula (Donnie) Rose of Cross Plains; brother Sherman Hughes of Farmers Retreat; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Eunice, and brothers Charles and George Hughes, and great grandson Jacob Livingston.


A service celebrating her life will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 16, 2020 at Bear Creek Baptist Church in Friendship with Pastor Sherman Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Family and friends may gather to share and remember her 5 – 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 15 at Filter-DeVries-Moore Funeral Home in Dillsboro. Memorials may be given in honor of Vesta to the Bear Creek Baptist Church or Child Evangelistic Fellowship/CEF (Good News Club).
