William Thornton “Bill” Liter

Mr. William Thornton “Bill” Liter, age 66, of Madison, Indiana, entered this life on August 8, 1955 in Madison, Indiana. He was the loving son of Delbert T. and Charlotte Lee Coffin Liter.
He resided all of his life in Jefferson County and was a 1973 graduate of Madison Consolidated High School where he played football and baseball. Bill had attended the Wirt Baptist Church near Madison and was baptized by Pastor Brynen Chitwood. On May 24, 1975 Bill was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Linda Katherine Little at the Milton United Methodist Church in Milton, Kentucky. This happy union of 46 years was blessed with a daughter, Tayra and a son, Chad.


He had worked for 33 years at Rotary Lift in Madison in shipping and receiving and then for 12 years with M & M in shipping and receiving until he retired in 2019 due to his illness. Bill had held membership in the Madison Moose Lodge No. 765 and the Madison Elks Lodge No. 524 and earlier in life played for the American Legion Baseball team. Bill enjoyed playing golf, bowling with his late father in law, coaching and umpiring baseball and softball. He was a great socializer, never met a stranger, was a dear papaw and pap pap to his grandchildren and great granddaughter. Bill fought a courageous battle with cancer and suffered a stroke on Wednesday, October 20, 2021at 3:37 p.m. in the emergency room at King’s Daughters’ Hospital with his loving family at his side.


Bill will be missed by his loving wife of 46 years, Linda Katherine Little Liter of Madison, Indiana; his loving daughter, Tayra Bright and her husband, Kori of Madison, Indiana; his loving son, Chad Liter and his wife, Ashley of Cincinnati, Ohio; his loving grandchildren, Braden Adams (Paige Knotts), Emerson Bright, Jacob, Nicholas, and Samantha Liter; his adoring great granddaughter, Nayla Rose Adams; his father, Delbert T. Liter of Deputy, Indiana; his mother in law, Delta Little of Madison, Indiana; two brothers, Bobby Liter and his wife, Lori of Taylorsville, Kentucky, Bart Liter and his wife, Alicia of Deputy, Indiana; his uncles and his aunts, Darrell Wayne Coffin and his wife, Shirley of Milton, Kentucky, Isaac Romans, Jr. of Milton, Kentucky, Janice Field of Kent, Indiana, Sue Liter Barnes of Milton, Kentucky; his sister in law, Mary Ellen Wehner and her husband, Jason of Madison, Indiana; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his mother, Charlotte Lee Coffin Liter, died April 20, 2020, his brother, Barry Dwayne Liter, died April 22, 1988, his grandparents, James Ervin Coffin, died April 7, 1952, and Evelyn Hammons Coffin, died July 29, 2000, Russell C. Liter, died August 10, 1989 and Lois Liter, died June 26, 2015, his father in law, Charles L. Little, died December 16, 2009; his great niece, Claire Kupper, died July 8, 2011.


Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., by Pastor Troy Hedges at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Interment will be at a later date at the Hebron Cemetery near Madison, Indiana. Friends may visit Monday from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana.
